There is no shortage of theories explaining behavior differences among children. The prevailing theory among psychologists and child development specialists is that behavior stems from a combination of genes and environment. Genes begin the process. Behavioral geneticists commonly claim that DNA accounts for 30–50 percent of our behaviors, an estimate that leaves 50–70 percent explained by our environment. One's environment affects the receptors on our cells, which send messages to genes.

This, in turn, activates various functional switches on or off. It's like this: like light switches, genes can be turned on or off. When they're switched on, they send signals that can affect the processes or structures in individual cells. For example, lifting weights tells the genes to "turn on” the signal to build muscle tissue. Genes can be either activated or shut off by a host of other environmental factors, such as stress and nutrition. These switches can either strengthen or impair aggression, immune function, learning, and memory.

Since the beginning of time, the children across the world have always been of great importance to God. As no other perfect example God gave us his only begotten Son, displaying compassion unto others. This is the foundation to our 1st Life skill program,
Child & Youth Involvement which focuses on
sincere love,
character building,
leadership,
physical/mental health,
and drug-free lifestyle
for boys and girls ages 4-18 that directly face these challenges everyday in our communities.

The Need
Will being involved and providing life skills help our children? The answer to that question is YES! Research shows that being involved improves outcomes for our children and provides opportunities for lifelong success as adults. If we want today’s children to be thinking, healthy, well-adjusted adults and productive citizens of tomorrow’s communities, then we need to spend time actively participating and building partnerships for this to happen. These partnerships must value every individual who plays a role in a child’s life. Child neglect is the most prevalent form of child maltreatment in the United States.

According to the National Child Abuse and Neglect Data System (NCANDS), of the approximately 899,000 children in the United States who were victims of abuse and neglect in 2005, 62.8 percent (564,765 children) suffered from neglect alone, including medical neglect. "According to NCANDS, 42.2 percent of child maltreatment fatalities in the United States in 2005 occurred as a result of neglect only, 24.1 percent as a result of physical abuse and neglect, and 27.3 percent as a result of multiple maltreatment types."

The Solution
Consider the similarities between weaving blankets that stand the test of time and creating supportive environments that help our children to thrive. "The systems, services and families in our children’s lives are strands of thread. Partnerships weave these strands to insure that our children are well prepared for the future. They will succeed, if we believe the adults in their lives have something worthwhile to give regardless of economic status, language, culture or disability. Individuals, organization & family involvement becomes a natural way of life when they are welcomed as partners. Families, schools, health care providers, service agencies, businesses and policy makers must listen to one another’s perspectives to make a difference for children."

The World Through Him, Inc. understands that they can’t save every child alone or be in every community in need of this support. However, by leading by example our vision is to grow through others so that one day all children can be saved by reducing physical, emotional, financial, medical, and educational neglect as well as increasing life expectancy.
